Kabul Plate is a family-owned catering business serving State College, PA and the Centre County region since early 2025 — the first Afghan food business in the area. We focus on fresh, high-quality food with professional service.
Our family of four arrived in State College in April 2022 from Kabul, Afghanistan. We were the first Afghan refugee family to settle in State College without any affiliation to Penn State University. Soon after arriving, we missed Afghan cuisine and culture in the area, which sparked the idea of opening an Afghan food establishment.
Our plans evolved when, within three months, Storai secured employment with Penn State University, followed by Murtaza becoming a full-time PSU student. During that time, we built community by sharing our food and culture with friends across State College. Hosting in our home and participating in local events brought encouragement to explore a catering business — and ultimately led to the creation of Kabul Plate Catering.
“I come from a diverse family and watched my mother prepare many dishes. My interest in cooking began at age 10.”
“I learned to cook from my wife, Storai. Her dishes are always delicious, so to give her a break I committed to mastering her recipes. Now I cook and work alongside her.”
